Michigan voters frustrated over lost jobs, home foreclosures and budget deficits will vote in Tuesday's primary election for leaders they hope can move the state out of its economic morass. With seven men running for governor and nearly two dozen candidates running for three open congressional seats, the hardest task may be sorting through the barrage of names, campaign ads and economic rhetoric. The candidates and voters agree that Michigan is at a crossroads.  

Imprisoned ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has given a deposition in a civil suit by the family of a slain Detroit stripper. Kilpatrick arrived Thursday at U.S. District Court in Detroit from a federal prison in Milan, Mich. He was questioned for several hours by Norman Yatooma, lawyer for Tamara Greene's three children. Yatooma won't reveal what Kilpatrick said.  

The wife and children of disgraced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick have moved from Southlake to Grand Prairie, a Detroit newspaper reported this week. Kilpatrick declined to comment to the Detroit paper or The Dallas Morning News . A Kilpatrick spokesman announced this month that after Kwame Kilpatrick landed back behind bars, this time for violating his probation, the family moved out of Southlake, where they had lived since December 2008.  

There's an anti-incumbent mood among many voters nationwide, and long-time Detroit Democratic Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick is struggling to retain her seat in Congress. But her biggest obstacle is not her legislative record — it's her name. That's because in Detroit, for the past few years, the name Kilpatrick has been repeatedly connected to courtrooms and scandal.  

A Detroit police officer who claimed he was retaliated against for issuing a ticket to Christine Beatty, the disgraced former chief of staff and lover of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, is on path to receive a $20,000 settlement in a whistle-blower lawsuit. A City Council committee today endorsed the settlement and expects the full council to approve the payout at its 4 p.m. meeting Thursday. Officer Tamboura Jackson claimed he was demoted to desk duty after ticketing Beatty for running a red light in  

Michigan's diminutive Attorney General Mike Cox likened himself to NBA giant Shaquille O'Neal this morning – fighting off opponents determined to foul – as he launched a week-long tour to close out his campaign for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Flanked by supporters from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and Right to Life, Cox said the latest reports purporting to tie him to the rumored Manoogian Mansion party were desperate fantasies promoted by people who want to "make money…or play politics.  

U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick was put on the defensive Monday night when troubles facing her son, ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, were brought up at debate against four other candidates vying for her 13th Congressional District seat.  

Detroit --Corporate backers are funding a major renovation of the Manoogian Mansion, but a spokeswoman says Mayor Dave Bing has no plans to move there anytime soon.
